ETH Zurich President Joël Mesot on Swiss Dual Vocational Education and Training
On Saturday August 10, 2019, the Swiss newspaper Blick published a column by ETH Zurich President Joël Mesot on Swiss dual VET, in which he also mentions the CEMETS Summer Institute. Mr. Mesot interprets the international interest in the Swiss education system as a confirmation that many things have been done the right way in Swiss education policy in the past.
Internships and Income
In a new working paper, Thomas Bolli, I, and Maria Esther Oswald-Egg explored the relationship between internships during university and graduates' incomes. We found that internships improve income for graduates, and the effect works through increasing graduates' transferable skills.
Very Successful 2019 CEMETS Summer Institute
This year, teams from eight countries – Benin, Chile, Costa Rica, Micronesia, Nepal, Serbia, and South Africa, plus US states (California, Colorado, Indiana, New York City, and Washington DC) – attended the CEMETS Summer Institute from June 26 – July 5 in Zurich. The goal of this education policy reform lab is to learn from a strong VET system, understand what makes some VET systems strong, and to work together on each team's plans to improve their own VET systems.
